If you’re on the move, GM has you covered with Level 2 chargers that may provide up to an estimated 150 miles of range in just four to eight hours of charging time.1 For added convenience, EVgo fast-charging stations are available at key destinations across the U.S. and Canada. With the MyCadillac mobile app, you can effortlessly locate public chargers, manage battery range and plan your trip routes, all from the comfort of your own luxury EV. Visit Cadillac’s EV Life for more details.

But even with these robust charging options, many Cadillac EV owners still prefer the ease and comfort of charging their vehicles at home. With GM Energy's home charging solutions, you can enjoy the ultimate luxury driving experience with the convenience of charging in your own garage.

This Q&A will cover:

  • why to invest in home charging for your Cadillac EV
  • what financing is available to cover the expense of a charging station
  • how to estimate the total cost of home energy equipment and installation
  • what protections coverage is available
  • how to find tax incentives and rebates for your home energy investment
  • what to know about bidirectional charging

Why invest in a home charging solution for your Cadillac EV?

Home charging offers several benefits for a Cadillac EV owner. In addition to the added convenience, comfort and faster overnight charging capability at home, a home charging station through GM Energy offers greater freedom and peace of mind.

Charging at home is often less expensive than public chargers, and you may be able to take advantage of off-peak electricity rates. It also offers greater control, since you can customize charging to fit your lifestyle and travel needs. And there is the opportunity to integrate your charging solution with compatible home energy products from GM Energy in the future.

Is financing available for adding a home charging station to my Cadillac EV purchase?

Financing is available for the purchase of EV home charging equipment. Your Cadillac dealership can assist you with selecting and financing your charger. With approved credit, finance a charger and $1,000 for charger installation services through Qmerit, with your lease or purchase contract.2

What options are available for GM Energy products for Cadillac customers?

In select states,3 you can apply with GM Financial to finance home energy products and installation services purchased through GM Energy (separate from your vehicle contract). GM Energy is rolling out bidirectional chargers and energy storage. You can receive a professional evaluation of your charging situation, including installation and support, and apply with GM Financial in under five minutes to see how much financing you may prequalify for. The prequalification won’t impact your credit. You can choose your charging products and services and receive a quote. Finally, you can apply to prequalify online. Although separate from your vehicle contract, financing for your home energy products will be provided by GM Financial and integrated with your Cadillac Financial MyAccount. So you will be able to manage all of your payments in MyAccount when you register.

How do I estimate the total cost of equipment and installation?

The cost of setting up home charging will vary depending on the equipment you choose. Your dealership can provide more details about the GM Chargers and can help you arrange installation through Qmerit. You may also be able to finance $1,000 of your installation expenses with your vehicle lease or purchase contract.

Or connect directly with a specialist at GM Energy to discuss your options and plan for the estimated expense.

What is the lifespan of an EV charger?

Many factors influence how long a charging product will last, including the type of charger, how often it is used and how well it’s maintained. With proper maintenance, EV charging stations are designed to last for several years. Technology is constantly evolving, but products are designed to be adaptable and easily upgraded with new hardware and software updates.

Are there warranties or protection available to protect my charging investment?

GM Energy home products include warranties that vary depending on the product covered. GM Energy PowerUp+ and PowerShift chargers come with a limited three-year warranty.

Are there tax incentives or rebates specific to installing a home charging station?

EV ownership may offer several incentive opportunities in the form of federal tax credits, state rebates and utility company incentives. By taking advantage of these programs, you can reduce the total cost of your EV. Incentives are dependent on your vehicle, location and individual circumstances.

We recommend exploring state and local incentives in your area. For example, you may also qualify for tax credits and rebates for the purchase and installation of an EV charger and for off-hours electricity usage in some states. The U.S. Department of Energy has created a calculator to help estimate the lifetime cost of owning an EV, which may also provide some guidance on potential cost savings.

I have heard that GM is offering bidirectional charging. Is that available with my Cadillac EV?

GM Energy is rolling out bidirectional charging products. A suite of smart-home energy management products are available with the ability to store power from the grid, incorporate solar energy and convert a compatible EV into a power source for your home power in the event of an outage. Contact your dealership or GM Energy to see which Cadillac EV models are or soon will be compatible with this technology.
